The Rose Bowl is an athletic and football stadium, located in Pasadena, California, a northeast suburb of Los Angeles. One of the most famous stadiums in the United States opened in October 1922. Best known for its annual Rose Bowl game which is nicknamed “The Granddaddy of Them All” as it is the oldest currently operating bowl game. The stadium has been the home of the LA Galaxy of the Major League Soccer (MLS) and is currently the home of UCLA Bruins football team of the NCAA.
With views of nearby mountain ranges and hills, this large capacity venue has hosted numerous historical events. In 1994 it was the venue of the soccer world cup including the infamous match in which Colombia’s Andres Escobar scored an own goal against the USA and the final between Italy and Brazil.
The Rose Bowl has also hosted five Super Bowls (the second most of any venue), including Super Bowl XXVII where Michael Jackson stood completely still and silent for almost two minutes before beginning his halftime performance. The stadium has also hosted Pink Floyd, Eagles and Green Day concerts and is now recognised as a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark.
