Located in Midtown, Manhattan between 7th and 8th Avenues from 31st to 33rd Streets and often referred to as ‘MSG’ or ‘The Garden’, Madison Square Garden is the fourth venue to bear the name. The first two (1879 and 1890) were located on Madison Square (and explains where the name originated from) on East 26th Street and Madison Avenue, and the third (1925) was further uptown at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street. The latest (and current) MSG, like the Yankee Stadium is one of the most iconic venues in the world.
Opened in 1968, The Garden is the oldest major sporting facility in metropolitan New York and is also the oldest venue in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). It is currently home to the New York Knicks of the NBA and the New York Islanders of the NHL. Not only is it an iconic sports stadium, but it is also the second busiest music venue in the world behind the O2 Arena in London, hosting concerts Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin and more recently, U2, Beastie Boys and One Direction.
