The Windsor Siding is situated on land which formed part of a rail loop line operating in the early 1860s between St Kilda and Brighton, previously owned by the State Government. In 1981 Prahran Council approached the government to acquire the site for public open space.
The Will Sampson Memorial Hall was erected on this site in 1956. It was named after William Sampson (1889-1951), a veteran of World War I, who was very involved in voluntary community work. The hall was demolished in 2018 as part of Stonnington Council’s extensive improvement works. These works include an enlarged central lawn area, upgraded BMX track and new connection from Peel Street.
Located between Union Street and Peel Street, Windsor, Windsor Siding sits across from Windsor Station, and just 350m from the No. 78 Tram on Chapel Street.
