Opened in 1967, The Forum was once the home of the L.A Lakers (NBA) and the L.A Kings (NHL) until they both moved to the Staples Centre in 1999. The stadium became a world-famous landmark in the 80s, largely due to the Lakers success during this period. Hollywood stars were regularly spotted attending matches and the Forum which was the stomping ground for a number of iconic careers including Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Over its long history, the venue has hosted numerous sports events such as Basketball, Ice Hockey, Tennis and Boxing including the 1972 and 1983 NBA All-Star Games, the 1981 NHL All-Star Game and several NBA Championship play-offs which featured the Lakers. Non-sporting events such as The Jackson 5, Led Zeppelin and Elvis Presley were also held. Since being renovated in 2014, the Forum has hosted an Eagles concert, MTV Music awards and a boxing match between Juan Manuel Márquez and Mike Alvarado for the WBO international welterweight championship.
