Located in the Near South Side district of Chicago, Illinois, Solider Field is the oldest stadium in the National Football League (NFL). Opened in 1924, it has been home to the Chicago Bears since 1971 and will be home to the Chicago Fire FC (MLB) as of 2020.
With a capacity of 61,500, the stadium underwent major renovations in 2002 which modernised the facilities and subsequently lowered the capacity. The upgrades also resulted in the stadium being delisted as a National Historic Landmark, although not many fans complain about this, with the venue regularly being voted among the most popular NFL stadiums in various surveys.
Other than Chicago Bears home games, the stadium has hosted an array of various events such as Chicago Blackhawks against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2014 as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series and five matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Non-sporting events include Pink Floyd in 1977, Madonna in 1987 and more recently, U2 in 2017.
