Located in the southeast of downtown Calgary, Scotiabank Saddledome is a multi-purpose indoor arena. It is home to the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (NHL), the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League (NLL).
Built in 1983 on the site of and as a replacement for the Stampede Corral (the Calgary Flames’ previous home), the arena’s roof is shaped like a saddle, hence the nickname and is one of the oldest arenas in the NHL behind Madison Square Garden and Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, also in New York.
The arena which features private dining rooms, luxury suites, sports bars and function rooms also hosted figure skating at the 1988 Winter Olympics, preseason NBA games along with Calgary Flames, Hitmen and Roughnecks home games. It has also hosted concerts for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rod Stewart.
