The Motera Stadium (officially known as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium), is a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Owned by the Gujarat Cricket Association and is a venue for Test, ODI, and T20I cricket matches. The stadium was built in 1983 with a capacity of 49,000 with renovations in 2006, slightly increasing the capacity to 54,000. Thanks to a complete reconstruction, as of February 2020, with a capacity of 110,00, the stadium is now the second largest in the world and the largest cricket ground in the world (a title once held by the Melbourne Cricket Ground).
The venue hosted cricket matches during the 1987, 1996 and 2011 Cricket World Cups. Aside from cricket matches, the stadium has hosted events arranged by the Government. The stadium also hosted the opening of “Namaste Trump”, President Trump’s inaugural visit in February 2020, which saw guest speaker make an absolute mess of the names of cricket stars and local heroes, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli during his speech.
