Petco Park is home to Major League Baseball team, the San Diego Padres. As the name suggests, it is located in downtown San Diego close to the San Diego Trolley station.
The stadium was opened in 2004 as a new home for the Padres, the previous home being Qualcomm Stadium which was shared with the San Diego Chargers. of the National Football League (NFL).
The venue’s design features retro-style red brick and green seats, external cladding in Indian sandstone and stucco, with exposed steel painted white, while the stadium’s internal seating is blue. The design is intended to evoke San Diego’s sandy coloured cliffs, beaches, blue oceans and white sails of nearby docked yachts. Additionally, the stadium also features multiple bars, restaurants, eateries and luxury suites.
Other than baseball, Petco Park has also hosted soccer, rugby, tennis, ice hockey and gold events where a par-3 nine-hole golf course within the stadium was constructed with tees in the upper decks and holes in the outfield of the stadium. No sporting events include Madonna, Metallica and Foo Fighters concerts.
