Rightfully nicknamed ‘The Big House’, Michigan stadium is the largest in the United States and the third largest in the world. Since opening in 1927, it has hosted crowds in excess of 115,000 such as the record attendance for a single college football game in 2013 between Michigan and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish with a crowd of 115,109. Since November 8th, 1975, Michigan stadium has drawn crowds in excess of 100,000 for an active streak of more than 200 contests.
The stadium usually hosts games for the home of Michigan Wolverines football team (NCAA) and also Michigan Wolverines men and women’s lacrosse teams (NCAA). In addition to these events, it is used for Michigan’s main graduation ceremonies and has also hosted the 2014 NHL Winter Classic between Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Redwings which attracted a crowd of 104,173, a record for a hockey game.
