Built in 2009 a head of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Mandela Bay Stadium was the host of five group games, as well as a round of 16 game, a quarter final and the 3rd place playoff between Uruguay and Germany.

Along with home games for Chippa United football club and Southern Kings, it has hosted Miss World 2009 as well as concerts for Neil Diamond and a Bay Summer Concert in 2009 which featured Busta Rhymes.
