Krestovsky Stadium or sometimes referred to as Saint Petersburg and also Stadium Gazprom Arena for sponsorship reasons is located in Saint Petersburg, Russia and is home to FC Zenit St. Petersburg and the Russia national football team for occasional matches.
Opened in 2017 on the former site of Kirov Stadium ahead of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the stadium’s design is influenced by Toyota Stadium in Japan. It features a retractable roof as well as ample modern amenities for people with disabilities including 560 seats, 266 of which are for wheelchair users.
The first official event was the Russian Premier League game between FC Zenit Saint Petersburg and FC Ural on April 22, 2017 with Branislav Ivanović scoring the first goal in the stadium’s history. The stadium also hosted seven FIFA World Cup matches including the semi-final between eventual tournament winners France and Belgium.
