Located in New Haven, Connecticut, David S. Ingalls Rink is the home hockey rink of Yale Bulldogs (Yale University). Commonly referred to as ‘The Whale’ due to its shape, the arena was opened in 1958 and renovated in 2009.
In 1970, several rock bands were playing at the venue as part of the protests on New Haven Green against the Black Panther trials. Towards the end of the concert, two bombs exploded in the rink’s basement causing glass to shatter and cracks in the arena’s arch. Luckily, no one was injured.
After the 2009 renovations, the 3,500 seat arena features men’s and women’s varsity locker rooms, training and strength and conditioning rooms, an added press box, a lower level hockey heritage area, offices for coaches of both programs, a student-athlete study area, new lights, as well as a sound system and de-humidification unit.
