Located in the North Shore neighbourhood of Pittsburgh, Heinz Field is the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL) and the Pittsburgh Panthers of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Although the yellow seats can appear to be painfully obvious when they are unused (which isn’t often), the stadium makes up for this, as fans are treated with skyline and waterfront views of the Ohio River.
Founded in conjunction with PNC Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the stadium was designed with Pittsburgh’s history of steel production in mind. This led to 12,000 tons of steel to be used during the construction.
Other than regular football games, the stadium has hosted the 2011 and 2017 NHL Winter Classic when the Pittsburgh Penguins played against the Washington Capitals and the Philadelphia Flyers respectively. It was also the host of a friendly between Manchester City and AC Milan and non-sporting event such as Guns ‘N Roses, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and Garth Brooks in front of a crowd of 75,000, the highest-ticketed show in Pittsburgh history.
