Also referred to as River Plate Stadium, Monumental de Núñez or El Monumental, Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti is in the Belgrano district of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Opened in 1938 and named after former club president Antonio Vespucio Liberti, it is the largest stadium in Argentina and home of Club Atlético River Plate football team, the Argentina national football team and the Argentina national rugby union team.
The stadium has also hosted significant events such as the 1978 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and the Netherlands (which Argentina won 3-1) and numerous local derbies between arch rivals, Boca Junior. Along with significant sporting events held here, the venue has also hosted a range of popular music acts such as Michael Jackson on his Dangerous world tour in 1993, Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC.
