Estadio Manuel Ferreira is the home venue of Club Olimpia, in Asuncion, Paraguay and is named after former club president Manuel Ferreira Sosa. The stadium is nicknamed “The forest of Stop One” due to the surroundings consisting of large, tall trees and the being located near the first stop of a now defunct train line.
It was opened in 1964 with a friendly between Olimpia and Santos FC of Brazil, which featured the great Pelé in its team. That particular game created so much excitement and anticipation to see Pelé play that the capacity was exceeded. This led to one of the fences supporting the crowd to break causing minor injuries. As soon as the incident happened, Pelé ran and jumped over the fence to help the injured spectators. The game was able to restart and eventually end in a 2-2 draw.
