Home teams:

  • Uruguay national football team
  • Montevideo City Torque

Located in the Parque Batlle district of Montevideo, Estadio Centenario was opened in 1930 in order to host the inaugural FIFA World Cup and also to commemorate the centennial of Uruguay’s first constitution. This venue is listed by FIFA as one of the football world’s classic stadiums and in 1983, it was declared by FIFA as the only historical monument of World Football.

Used mainly for football games, Estadio Centenario is home to Uruguay national team and has proved to be a daunting venue for visiting teams as they consistently beat quality opposition including Brazil who have only managed three wins out of 20 attempts. In addition to football events, the venue has hosted musical acts such as Roxette, Guns N’ Roses and Rod Stewart.
