Established in 1864, Eden Gardens is located in Kolkata, India. With a capacity of 80,000, it is the second oldest stadium in India behind the newly renovated Sardar Patel Stadium and third oldest in the world (Melbourne Cricket Ground being the second).
Mainly used for cricket, the stadium is home to the Bengal cricket team and the Kolkata Knight Riders of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is regularly used for international test, ODI and T20 matches. In 2019, the stadium held its first ever day/night test match between India and Bangladesh. It has also hosted matches during the 1987, 1996 and 2011 cricket World Cups including two finals.
Often referred to as the home of Indian cricket, Eden Gardens is widely acknowledged as one of the most iconic cricket venues in the world. Visiting teams often struggle to play here due to the intimidating large and vociferous crowds.
