Replacing Tiger Stadium, it was opened in 2000 with 39,168 spectators in attendance to watch the Tiger defeat the Seattle Mariners 5-2 on a cold and snowy afternoon at just 2°C (36 °F).

Named after Comerica Bank which was founded in Detroit, the stadium seats 41,083 people and features a giant tiger statue outside the main entrance, an LED scoreboard and a twelve-car baseball Ferris wheel designed like a baseball situated behind the stands in the northeastern corner of the stadium.
