Opening in 1998, ahead of the Diamondbacks’ first game as an expansion team, Chase Field was the first stadium built in the United States with a retractable roof over a natural-grass playing surface. The surface has since been replaced by synthetic turf in 2019.
Among many modern facilities, the stadium features a swimming pool in the right-center field which holds 35 guests. Tickets to this area can cost upward of USD$3,000.
Chase Field hosted several games during the Diamondbacks’ 2001 World Series triumph. The stadium’s has also seen marathon games including one against the St.Louis Cardinals in 2019 which took 19 innings to complete, lasting 6 hours and 53 minutes.
