Anfield is a football stadium located in Anfield, Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It has a seating capacity of 54,074, making it the seventh largest football stadium in England. It has been the home of Liverpool F.C. since their formation in 1892. It was originally the home of Everton F.C. from 1884 to 1891, before they moved to Goodison Park after a dispute with the club president.
The stadium has four stands: the Spion Kop, the Main Stand, the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and the Anfield Road End. The record attendance of 61,905 was set at a match between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1952. In 1994 the ground converted to an all-seater stadium, reducing its capacity as a result of the Taylor Report following the Hillsborough disaster where 96 spectators were crushed to death due to overcrowding.
Anfield has a steep history as home to one of the most successful clubs in the world making the venue such a difficult place for visiting teams. Liverpool’s fans are among the most passionate and loyal supporters in the world, opening every match with a spine tingling rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Fun Fact: The stadium’s owners Fenway Sports Group also own Liverpool, Fenway Park in Boston and The Boston Red Sox.
