The American Airlines Center (AAC) is a multi-purpose indoor arena, located in downtown Dallas, Texas. The arena serves as the home to the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Opened in 1999 as a replacement for the undersized Reunion Arena, the first event was an Eagles concert. The first sporting event was the Dallas Sidekicks of the World Indoor Soccer League against the San Diego Sockers.
Controversy arose just a few weeks after opening, when it was found that the glass installed in the bathrooms was not the same as originally intended. Many people who drove past the arena stated that they had a clear view into the restrooms. The glass was swiftly changed in order to fix this issue.
The stadium was the host to several playoff games during the Mavericks’ championship in 2011 where Dallas famously beat a star-studded Miami Heat featuring Lebron James. Other than sport, the stadium has held concerts for AC/DC, Lady Gaga and System of a Down.
