The Estádio Algarve is located between Faro and Loulé, in Almancil, Portugal. Formerly the home of Farense and Louletano, and also hosting some Olhanense and Portimonense matches during renovations to their respective stadiums, the stadium currently has no tenants other than occasional Portugal national football team home games.
Opened in 2004 ahead of the European Championships tournament, the stadium holds 30,305 and features a distinct sail boat design which acknowledges Portugal’s maritime traditions in harmony with the local landscape.
As indicated previously, the stadium has hosted several matches during Euro 2004 including a quarter final between Sweden and Netherlands. The inaugural Algarve Challenge Cup tournament was also held here which featured Cardiff City, Celtic, Middlesbrough, and Vitória de Guimarães competing. Other than football matches, the venue has also been used for music festivals and concerts.
